In 2009, while lecturing at the University of Bordeaux during an annual seminar on French-American exchanges, Philippe BEAU noticed the difficulty that many students have in finding internships in the United States and their interest in following courses in the country. He then decided in 2013 to create the "Business Education American Urban Institute", a non-profit organization offering a cultural, educational and professional exchange program for French students in the Tampa Bay area in Florida, the region where he had settled a few decades earlier.

Our organization was created exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Specifically, the corporation is organized for the charitable and educational purposes of administering cultural and educational exchange programs between France and the USA, providing consulting services in the field of higher education administration, providing business and cultural classes, providing short term educational business internships to students, promoting public interest in education, recognition, career advancement and leadership, and providing scholarships and endowments to students.

The B.E.A.U Institute aims to be an alternative to the traditional university learning model. We aim at facilitating the transition and the integration of our students into a meaningful future career by offering unpaid internships in the US and interactive classes. It is also our goal to make this program an unforgettable cultural experience. At the BEAU Institute's your career of tomorrow starts today !

"The BEAU Institute uses a method called Problem Based Learning (PBL). Our faculty is chosen for its knowledge of both academics and business in order to be able to present concrete, current and genuine case studies. Students participate in research and analysis of business cases and market studies with the intent to derive solutions, and, from them, identify the underlying theory. It complements what students learn at their school or university in their country of origin. The remarkable outcome from this method is that students memorize way more theory when it is extracted from concrete problems and solutions, and they learn how to prove, convince and present the results of their research in a public forum environment in English. It builds up their confidence, their language abilities, and their presentation skills, but ultimately, it also makes them understand the company where they are interning. Students participate and share knowledge and ideas in this very interactive format through a process of osmosis in a small group, while still avoiding group-think tendencies when challenged by other groups. During their internship days, they are able to relate this newfound knowledge and apply it to their companies to the great appreciation of their supervisors who do not hesitate to give them more responsibilities or indepedence. Although calling on creativity, this process is grounded in realistic professional knowledge transferred by the professor to his/her students. At the same time, students learn about the business culture in the US, as well as about the country and its people, which students absorb and integrate in order to relate to their internship missions. The emphasis is on the Spirit of Entrepreneurship.

Another mandate that the BEAU Institute sees for itself is to offer a class on Career Discovery to the students who, for the most part, are about to embark on their professional journey, and are eager to learn how to map, plan and control their future occupation based on their sense of vocation, skills, personalities, and motivations. The main purpose of this class and its application is to facilitate the transition from student life to becoming a competent professional while being immersed in a different culture, learning to work as a team, and socializing in an American campus style atmosphere. This class also provides methodology and assistance on how to create a unique profile for each student to be used in resume writing and on LinkedIn, which is, as we believe, the first step to finding their dream job !"
